This award pays for summer internships at news organizations, as well as scholarships for those students returning to school after their internship has taken place. It encourages its recipients to consider news, online or sports copy editing as a possible career.

Academic Disciplines/Professional Aspirations: Journalism

Award: This is a $1,000, nonrenewable scholarship awarded to 100 qualified applicants in their junior or senior year.

Requirements for Eligibility: Those who apply must be enrolled, or expecting to enroll full-time in a four-year institution.

Requirements for Application: Transcript, references, essay, resume, driver’s license, and application. The deadline for these materials is November 1st.

This a nonrenewable scholarship which is open to photojournalism students in the amount of $2500. Students must be enrolled in a university or college nationwide and must be studying either television, radio, print, or online journalism.

Academic Disciplines/Professional Aspirations: Journalism; Photography/Photojournalism

Award: This is a nonrenewable scholarship to be applied to freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate years. The number of awards vary. The award amount is $2500.

Requirements for Eligibility: Those who apply must be enrolled or must expect to enroll for full or part time coursework at a four-year university or institution. This scholarship is available to US citizens.

Requirements for Application: Application, transcript, essay, resume, references, work samples. The deadline is October 2.

This scholarship is designed to reward students for journalistic achievement and encourage them to focus on issues of social justice within their writing.

Academic Disciplines/Professional Aspirations: Journalism

Award: This award is available for all years of undergraduate levels. It is nonrenewable, and awarded to two applicants, $500 for a graduating high school senior, and $1,500 to a college student.

Requirements for Eligibility: Applicants must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen, and either be enrolled or planning to enroll in a four-year institution.

Requirements for Application: Contest entry, application. The deadline for these materials is January 25.

Arab American Institute Foundation Scholarship

Al-Muammar Scholarship For Journalism

These are four scholarships of $5,000 each that are awarded to eligible college students of Arab American heritage.  To be eligible students must be majoring in journalism, or be college seniors who have already been accepted to graduate journalism school.

Award: This scholarship is for use during sophomore, junior, senior, graduate, or postgraduate years.  This scholarship is not renewable.  Number: The number of scholarships awarded is 1 to 4.  Amount: The amount of the scholarships awarded is $5,000.

Requirements for Eligibility: Applicant is required to be of Arab ancestry and enrolled or anticipating to enroll part-time or full-time at a two-year or four-year college or university.  This scholarship is only available to united States citizens.

Requirements for Application: Essay composition, application, school transcript, resume, and portfolio.  Deadline: March 14.

American Copy Editors Society (ACES) Copy Editing Scholarship

There are multiple $2,500 awards provided every year.  Student who are not chosen as Aubespin scholars are automatically qualified to compete for American Copy Editors Society’s (ACES) other scholarship prizes of $1,000 each.  This scholarship is available to undergraduate students beginning their junior or senior year, graduate students, and graduating students who are taking full-time copy editing internships or jobs.

Academic Disciplines/Professional Aspirations: Journalism.

Award: This is for use during junior, senior, or graduate years.  This scholarship is not renewable.  Number: The number of scholarships awarded varies.  Amount: The amount of the scholarships awarded is $1,000 to $2,500.

Requirements for Eligibility: The applicant is required to be enrolled or anticipating to enroll full-time at a four-year college or university, and should demonstrate an interest in writing.  The applicant is required to have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.  This scholarship is available only to United States citizens.

Requirements for Application: The applicant has to enter a competition, application, list of course work related to copy editing, essay composition, personal references,  copies of five to ten headlines,  and a copy of a story edited by the applicant.  Deadline: November 15.
