This scholarship is a one-time award for high school students who are children of Armed Forces veterans who served during the eligibility dates for the American Legion.

Award: This is a nonrenewable scholarship to be applied to the freshman year. There are 15 scholarships available in an amount ranging between $1,000 and $2,500.

Requirements For Eligibility: Those who apply must be high school students who are either planning to enroll or anticipating enrollment for full time coursework at a four year university or institution. This award is available to US citizens. The student or the parents must meet at least one of the following requirements: have general military experience; be retired from active duty; be disabled or killed due to military service; be a prisoner of war; or be missing in action.

Requirements for Application: Application, test scores, transcript, essay, references, self-addressed stamped envelope. The deadline for these materials is March 1.

Airmen Memorial Foundation Scholarship

Airmen Memorial Foundation/Air Force Sergeants Association

This award is for full time undergraduate students who are dependent children of either Air Force, Air National Guard, or Air Force Reserve Command members who are active duty, veterans, or retired. Those who apply must be under the age of 23, have a combined SAT 1 score of 1650 or higher, or 24 or higher on the ACT, as well as a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Award: This is a nonrenewable scholarship to be applied to freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior years. There are 20 scholarships available in the amount of $500 to $2,000.

Requirements for Eligibility: Those who apply must be less than 23 years old, and either be enrolled in or anticipating enrollment in full time coursework at a four year university or institution. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 or more. This scholarships is available to US and non-US citizens. Either the applicant or the parent of the applicant has to meet at least one of the following: have Air Force or Air Force National Guard experience; be retired from active duty; be disabled or killed as a result of military service; prisoner of war; or missing in action.

Requirements for Application: Application, transcript, essay, references. The deadline for these materials is March 31.

American Legion Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is for any children or adopted children of active duty personnel from the US Military, National Guard, or Reserve who were federalized and perished during active duty on or after September 11, 2001. Students who apply have to be high school seniors or high school graduates. This award is to be used for undergraduate study at a school of higher education in the US.

Award: This is a non-renewable scholarship to be applied to freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior years. The number of awards given varies, and the amount awarded ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.

Requirements for Eligibility: Those who apply must either be presently enrolled or anticipate enrollment for full time coursework at a two or four year or technical institution or a university. The scholarship is available to US citizens. The applicant or parent of the applicant have to meet at least one of the requirements as follows: general military experience, retired from active duty, disabled or killed due to military service given, prisoner of war, missing in action.

Requirements for Application: Application, test scores, transcript, financial need analysis, photocopy of veteran’s death certificate. The deadline for these materials is April 15.

Daniel E. Lambert Memorial Scholarship

This is a one time scholarship award given to students whose parents are veterans of the US military. Undergraduate and graduate students can apply for this award, which is based on good character as well as financial need. Those who apply must be US citizens. Applicants need to show that they are enrolled in or are attending an accredited institution for college or a vocational technical school. The awards are given in the amount ranging from $500 to $1,000.

Award: This is a nonrenewable scholarship to be applied to freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior years. There are one to two awards given to students in amounts ranging from $500 to $1,000.

Requirements for Eligibility: Those who apply must either be presently enrolled or anticipate enrollment in full time coursework at a two or four year institution or university, or a technical institution. Students must be Maine residents and US citizens. Those who apply, or applicants’ parents, must fulfill one of the requirements as follows: general experience in the military; retired from active military duty; disabled or killed due to military service; prisoner of war; missing in action.

Naval Reserve Association Scholarship

This award is for children of active members of the Naval Reserve Association.

Academic Disciplines/Professional Aspirations: None

Award: The amount of scholarships awarded varies, and can be in any amount from $1,000-$5,000. The scholarship can be used in any year of undergraduate study.

Requirements for Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen enrolled in a two or four-year institution. They must also be 24 years of age or younger, and either they or their parent must have Navy experience, be disabled or killed as a result of military service, be a prisoner of war, retired from active duty, or missing in action.

Requirements for Application: Autobiography, essay, financial need analysis, references, transcript, test score, application. All these materials are due by May 1.

Award: Fifty scholarships will be awarded in amounts ranging from $200-$1,000. They are for use in any level of undergraduate education and are renewable.

Requirements for Eligibility: Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, be a U.S. citizen, and be enrolled in a four-year institution. Additionally, the applicant or their parent must have been either in the Coast Guard, Navy or Marine Corps and either retired from active duty, a prisoner of war, missing in action, or disabled/killed as a result of military service.

Requirements for Application: Driver’s License, references, essay, self-addressed and stamped envelope, test scores, transcript, application, and proof of eligibility. All these materials are due by March 15.

Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association

Women’s Army Corps Veteran’s Association Scholarship

This is for a child, niece, nephew and niece, or grandchild of an Army servicewoman who is also a graduating high school senior. A GPA of 2.5, and enrollment full-time at a university is also required.

Award: One scholarship in the amount of $1,500 is awarded for use in the freshman year of college.

Requirements for Eligibility: Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher, be a high school senior planning to enroll at a full-time institution. This is available only to U.S. citizens, and either the applicant or a parent mush be retired from active duty, a prisoner of war, missing in action, or disabled/killed as a result of military service.

Requirements for Application: Driver’s license, references, transcript, application, and documentation of sponsor’s military service. The deadline for these materials is May1.

Applicants must be a daughter or granddaughter of a U.S. Army member who 1) retired from active duty after 20+ years of service, 2) is still in active duty, 3) was medically retired before 20 years of duty, 4) died after retiring from active duty, 5) died while on active duty.
